If you are a business owner, whether small, medium or large and your business does not have an online presence or is not on the internet, then you are making the greatest mistake of your life! Why am I saying this you may ask. I have to tell you this because the internet has changed the way we do business in this day and age. You can interact or communicate with a whole new group of customers or clients or even potential business partners and investors from all over the world and I mean it, with ease, using the internet. Creative inventors have made it easier for us to do so by creating smart phone gadgets and laptops (computers) that enable us to interact with one another in seconds. All you need is one of this gadgets and you are on your to selling yourself to the millions of people who do not know you.

While watching an advert on an international cable television, BET, I saw an advert about a chef who writes down menu’s for customers and he also gives them directions on how to prepare these meals. He will also package the ingredients to cook the meal and send it to his customers address. The company has an application (app) which you can easily download to your smartphone and a website. Now we have a lot of chef’s and cooks in Nigeria but most of them do not have a website or an app (if they really know what it is!). And most of them do not know how to sell to customers who do not visit their restaurants or shops. By owning a website and an app you will be able to do this. Your business might be based in a remote village in Imo State in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria but as long as you have a website and an app and you have one of these GSM companies in that area and you have a smartphone or laptop, you can send your products to anybody in maybe Lagos, Kano or Sokoto States of Nigeria or even a customer based in the U.S, U.K, Russia or China or even Australia and South Africa. The people purchasing your goods and services will also pay for the delivery of these goods. You can include the cost of these goods in the payment schedule for the customer and still say that you are delivering it free. This is a marketing gimmick today’s entrepreneurs use to sell their products and services.

Knowing how, what, when and where to sell your products and services on the internet is very important. You also need to communicate on a daily basis with your customers or target market. You must not sell but tell when you are doing this. Let your customers know that you are a solutions person or market leader in your industry. This will make them to be more confident in seeking your services. Social media platforms like Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Googleplus, Instagram, Pinterest, Whatsapp, Snapchat and so on, are perfect platforms for you to communicate with your target market. Most of these platforms also have fantastic packages for small business people.

So what are you waiting for? Own a website and app for your business today.
