West Ham United kicked off their 2015/2016 English Premier League season with their win against Arsenal, at Arsenal’s home front and back yard, the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, the 9th of August, 2015. As an ardent Arsenal fan, I was disappointed. Wenger could only give the excuse of West Ham being better prepared than Arsenal. That excuse doesn’t hold ground considering the fact that they were knocked out of the UEFA Cup during the week before the match and the had an entirely new squad from the squad that got knocked out.
I am doubtful that Arsenal will win their next match away to Crystal Palace. There are two players I don’t like presently in Arsenal and they are Oliveir Giroud and Jack Wilshere. Club hero and legend, Thierry Henri said not so long ago that Giroud is not a world class player and the later took offense, when he should have replied Henri on the field of play by scoring goals. Nevertheless, Giroud scores goals but for some time now the player leaves his head in the clouds and doesn’t concentrate in matches. Wenger ought to have sat Giroud on the bench and started Theo Walcott. I wonder why they had to sell Yaya Sanogo to Ajax Amsterdam and he played well for Ajax. Sanogo is big and strong and causes problems for opposing defenders. Giroud is a playboy and his hair never gets ruffled during games. You could even see him taking care of his hair during matches. He had a head knock during the match but when he got up, his hair was unruffled!
Jack Wilshere is a player who thinks he is Englands Leo Messi. Unfortunately, he will never be! Both players are worlds apart, with Wilshere far down below. Yet, Wenger depends on these two players. Arsenal are yet to buy players and their only world class player bought during the off season, is Petr Cech. An old war horse! I was doubtful when he came over to Arsenal but he gave us hopes when we played against his former club Chelsea, at the community shield match, a match that I wasn’t to impressed with! Cech managed the defense well. In the match against West Ham, Cech should have rushed out and Per Mertesacker didn’t stay in the middle and allowed his marker, Kanoute, to outpace and outsmart him to head in the first goal.
The second goal was even painful. The defense allowed West Ham players to out run them and Oxlade-Chamberlain had to come back to defend. He won back the ball but the second West Ham goal scorer bullied him off it, and he didn’t fight back to win it. Next thing we know the ball was in the net, and people blame Cech. That second goal was the fault of all Arsenal defenders!
Wenger didn’t do his home work well. He never did an analysis to see where we had our weak points and get players who would help us in solving the problem. At least, he ought to have bought the Monaco player who scored the first goal in the UCL second round match Arsenal lost 3-1 in London. Arsenal needed one striker, one defensive midfielder and a goal keeper. But Wenger doesn’t want to buy! I won’t be surprised if oneof these lesser teams in the EPL wins the league.
The star match for match day 2 fixtures in the premier league is the match between Manchester City and Chelsea on Sunday 16/8/2015. Don’t know who to root for but I think Manchester City might win it. City won their match 3-0 against West Brom on Monday night with YaYa Toure scoring a brace. Muarinho’s men will be stubborn to beat and they can win it. The defense of City scored the goals this time out and attacking midfielders did same for Chelsea. That’s were the problem lies! Misfiring attackers!!! Let’s watch and see.
