Nigeria versus Mexico friendly match 31/5/2013.

Nigeria played a friendly match with Mexico last night by 2am Nigerian time and most Nigerians missed it. The match was played in the Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas, USA. This is the second time that Nigeria would meet Mexico in a friendly which ended in a 2-2 draw with both Nigeria’s goals scored by Obafemi Martins, in 2006.

This match also ended in a 2-2 draw, with Mexico scoring first through Javier Hernandez also known as Chicarito of Manchester United. It is good to note that Austin Ejide was in goal in the first half. Nigeria then equalized through a penalty kick, via Brown Ideye, after a Mexican player, Berrera handled the ball in their own penalty box. New Super Eagles, John Ogu, who was in place for Mikel Obi then put Nigeria in front before the end of the first half, but it deflected past a Mexican player, Torrado, to make scores 2-1 to Nigeria. Chicarito then equalized for Mexico in the second half in the 70th minute to beat Enyeama Vincent in goal to level scores at 2-2. Mexico were down to 10 men when Berrera was sent off before the penalty.

Nigeria’s next matches are in Nairobi, Kenya against the Kenyans, on 6/6/2013 and in Namibia on the 12/6/2013, before they would go and meet Tahiti, Uruguay and Spain in the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil.
