Bruno is a young man who is struggling to make ends meet in his life. He is approaching 40 and yet he is unmarried. He is unable to get a regular job and when he does, he is unable to keep it. His family and friends keep telling him to go and seek prayers for deliverance because they think he is cursed. They ask him questions about his relationship with his relatives and friends. They want to know whether he or anybody in his family offended anybody. Yet, Bruno asks himself, I’m I really that cursed?!

A curse is the opposite of a blessing. When somebody wishes you well, that is a blessing. But when somebody wishes bad things, evil things, that is a curse. Most times, when things are not going our way or when we encounter or experience hard or tough times, we easily find someone to blame. Rather than take a serious look at what we did wrong or are not doing well, we seek the easiest way out by blaming others for our failures.

A curse is also connected to superstitious beliefs. When someone falls critically ill, or gets involved in an accident or experiences misfortunes, they blame it on the devil or devil worshipers or pagans who visit shrines.

As for me, I don’t believe in curses. Curses are just ways for pastors or juju priests to turn their victims into regular ATM machines. They use the ignorance of these individuals to enrich themselves. Do I believe in the devil and God? Maybe!!! Do I believe in Jesus Christ!!! Yes I do, that is if I wasn’t forced to do so! Do I believe in a supernatural being who is responsible for our existence. Yes!!!! But will he stand by and allow his subjects to experience hardships? I don’t think so and if that is so, that is the higher sense of irresponsibility!!!

We are the architects of our own success and failures and I expect people to sit down and do their homework and solve their problems, rather than blame others or seek opportunist pastors and babalawo’s to pray for them or do some spiritual stuff for them.

What do you think? Do you believe in curses?!!
